Learning Reiki is different to learning alot of therapies. This is because the knowledge is passed from the master to the student through a series of attunements. Through these attunements the student gains access to the universal reiki flow of energy.

Of course, students also have to learn how to use this energy and use of techniques which are taught in a more traditional format.

UsuiShiki Ryoho Reiki. - Translates as the Usui system of natural reiki healing

This is the system of healing and spiritual awakening which was rediscovered by Japanese man Dr. Mikao Usui over a hundred years ago, brought to the West via Hawaii, into America. The system is taught via attunements which are one to one passing on energetic information between the master and student. Reiki masters must be able to provide a lineage which links them back to Usui himself and membership to various bodies such as the UK Reiki Federation ask to see the lineage of your master teacher to see how you have been taught. This is the style which Reiki Master Susan Mulcahy teaches in Droitwich, Worcestershire.
